Plyos

Plyos sits on the right bank of the Volga, where the river makes a wide turn and the bank rises into a steep hill. The town is small — a few streets down the slope, wooden houses with attic windows, the Church of the Resurrection on the hill. Everything else is water and the sky above it.
Isaac Levitan came here in 1888 and stayed for three summers; Golden Plyos and After the Rain. Plyos were painted on this bank. The place has kept what matters since — the proportion of land, water and air.
This subject is taken from the height of Cathedral Hill at the hour when the sun is already low and the water grows denser than the sky.
