About

What this is

Okoem is an old Russian word for the line as far as the eye reaches. The project collects series of wallpapers of the Russian landscape: watercolour, quiet light, a great deal of air. The site exists for one purpose — so that you find your subject and take the file in your own resolution.

How the images are made

The images are made with artificial intelligence in the artist’s own style. This is not press-a-button-and-publish: out of a large number of attempts a few are selected by hand — the ones that hold their composition and colour — and those are then upscaled to print resolution and cut to the aspect ratios of real screens, from 32:9 down to phone verticals.

File metadata is not stripped: every JPEG keeps its provenance information. The author is based in the European Union, and the project follows the transparency requirement of Article 50 of the EU AI Act — the note about generative origin sits on every subject page rather than hidden in a footer.

Where new subjects appear

The series keep growing, and this is announced in two places: the project’s Telegram channel, @okoemnet, and its group on VK. There is no mailing list, so these are both the way not to miss anything new and the way to reach the author.

Using the files

Free for personal use: put them on your screen, print them for yourself, show them to friends. Commercial use is by arrangement. The full terms are on the terms of use page.
